It's the year 2038, and the entire planet's been taken over by a mysterious alien force. Living on their ships in geosynchronous orbit, the aliens dictate policy from on high through their puppet rulers. Humanity, while not slaves, are at least subjugated as never before, with checkpoints, restricted words, and strictly controlled "state" media. With no sign of the Doctor, and Captain Jack's whereabouts unknown (although he's likely been captured and is being kept), it's up to a small band of rebels known as "Torchwood" to keep hopes for freedom alive.
Led by Anwen Williams and Alfie Owens, and situated in a warehouse in Cardiff, Torchwood does its best to strike back and organize whatever fight it can. Rebels come from all walks of life, but through Torchwood are turned into effective freedom fighters. With communication between countries and even states, provinces, and counties, severely restricted, it is unknown how many successful rebellions have been done, or even if any have happened at all.
But Torchwood will keep trying, because humanity is destined for great things...if only they could free themselves.
