You cannot qualify war in harsher terms than I will. War is cruelty, and you cannot refine it; and those who brought war into our country deserve all the curses and maledictions a people can pour out. I know I had no hand in making this war, and I know I will make more sacrifices today than any of you to secure peace.
Captain America quoting General William Tecumseh Sherman, during a national televised press conference after the Battle For New York.
Nearly five years ago, New York had been successfully defended. It’s intruders from another world stopped and turned back. Though, the cost of this defense was immeasurable. Lives were lost. Lots of lives were lost. From the average person, to the hero striving to make sure no other lives were lost. The battle lasted over three days and consumed more than a quarter of the city. When the intruders were stopped and sent back, did the heroes actually win? They saved the city. But at what cost? Was it worth the lives that were lost?
It started when a portal to another world opened above the city, allowing an alien race known as the Chautari being led by another alien, though this one looked much more human than the other intruders and calling himself Loki. In Norse mythology, he was god of mischief. To say the least, he was living up to his role. During the battle of New York, he had two very specific targets to start. They would all be distracted by the alien invasion to see that he was the true culprit. The one known as Clint Barton is one of this worlds greatest marksman. Loki would seek him out, knowing that this mortal was in no contest to him.
Clint was able to spot Loki before the god came too close, but it was a futile attempt. Even after lodging explosive arrows into the God of Mischiefs armor, it wouldn’t slow him down. When Loki got close enough, he jammed his scepter into the archers chest. The mind stone taking hold of Clint’s mind, fogging it over. After a moment, the marksman would kneel before the God. So far, the God’s plan was working.
With the archer under the influence of Loki’s magic, he would become Loki’s protector and bodyguard for the time being. Now, the next step was to get the loose canon under his power. The one with the true power to stop him, this was going to be Loki’s greatest feat. To take command of the Hulk.
The Breaker of Worlds.
The Strongest One There Is.
Hulk was in Queens, fighting a massive whale like creature. Though, this was no normal whale. It’s armor plates had been further augmented and was a true test of the Hulk. Once Hulk achieved the upper hand. Loki used his illusion magic to engage the green behemoth. After distracting long enough, the mischievous one was able to do the same as he did with the Marksman. Though, this time it was a true test of wills. The stone worked hard against the Breaker of Worlds. But, ultimately the beast fell against the powerful artifact and became enslaved to Loki. Now, the God’s true mission was just starting. The invasion was just a mere distraction. The Asgardian Throne was his true target, and he knew that his … brother … Thor was in love with the Midgardians and their precious little backwater planet. Loki knew that Thor would be doing his damnedest to protect this world. And with the sounds of thunder rattling the unbroken windows around them, and lightning sundering the sky.
A sign that his brother was near.
The God of Mischief sent Hawkeye to deal with the mortal heroes, honestly. Loki didn’t care much for the archer. Knowing that he would at least complete his job. Which is all that mattered, he was another distraction. The real power was in the Green Behemoth. He was the ultimate key in all of this. Loki knew he couldn’t take Thor head on. Hold him off, sure. But never beat him. This is where Hulk came in. Commanding Hulk to jump towards the lightning and thunder.
Loki would hold on for dear life as Hulk crossed blocks without so much breaking a sweat.
When Hulk was near, Loki would jump off to the nearest building and let Hulk … well, Smash. Hulk made one more leap before crashing into the Thunder God.
The two fought for hours, the two trading blows and not slowing down one bit. Every strike the Thunder God got on the Green Giant just made him madder, and the madder Hulk got, the stronger Hulk got. But it was sometime around the fourth hour when Hulk was starting to get the upper hand as he landed several hard blows to the Thunder Caller. The god started swinging his hammer around as fast as he could then threw it with the full might he could muster. What should have been a knockout punch, turned into something so very wrong.
Hulk caught the hammer in his giant hands as he was pushed back several blocks. But not once falling over. Loki caught onto his and teleported himself from the building to where Hulk was and started pumping magical strength into him as Thor was bounding towards them. WIth the magic Loki pumped into the goliath, Thor arrived just in time to watch his hammer get destroyed. Then the unspeakable happened as Loki appeared behind him and drove his bladed scepter through his brothers back. Then cast a spell of dismissal. Sending him somewhere not even the thunder god could survive.
Loki could feel a shadow over him, a .. very.. Large shadow. It seemed the enslavement was wearing off, or the beasts will was simply too wrong. It was clear time for Loki to make his exit. Before the beast could grab him, Loki was gone. It was time to return to Asgard and claim the throne for himself. Now that his brother was out of the picture, along with his stupid hammer.. Things were going to be a lot easier.
On the ground, Captain America was doing his best to contain the situation. But even the super soldier was running low on fuel. Heroes fought, and died around him. But, without their sacrifice, he wouldn’t be where he was. With the Avengers that were left, and the heroes that joined the cause, it took them nearly three days to fight back against the invading army sending them packing to go home. With the genius minds that, a type of nuclear warhead was fashioned. But only one person had the ability to get it up there.
Tony Stark, the Iron Man.
After some quick modifications, the warhead was strapped to the armored avenger. Setting his thrusters to one hundred percent, he took off like… well, a rocket. Flying higher, and higher...and higher. To the point where Tony’s suit was stalling out due to altitude and lack of oxygen. By this time, his momentum carried him through the hole. Releasing the warhead, Tony could see exactly what they were up against. Then his momentum stopped and he started to fall backwards through the hole. When the warhead went off, the release of energy started to close the hole, it also proved destructive to the Chitauri space fleet. Taking out a cruiser or two and many smaller battleships.
But, the real problem was that now Tony was in freefall, plummeting towards the Earth. It if wasn’t for the Hulk leaping up and catching him. Surely the Iron Knight would have become past upon impact on the ground.
The day has been won. The Alien fleet had been driven back, the portal closed. As Captain America looks around, did they win? The city was in a state of emergency. People were dead, heroes had died protecting this Earth. Was this a win? Or did they just merely stall their impending doom?
